TGCC First team v SKLP Match day 2.

Title: the invincibles march on:

After two years of torment with one league win tgcc firsts notched their second successive win of the season against sklpcc.

I cannot comment on the first twelve overs as parental duties kept me away but by all accounts new boy Mark started his career well and form bowler ollie thorne picked up two early wickets. At thirty odd for two their best two batsmen were in and they looked comfortable. The pitch was true and fullers looked a pretty picture only lacking as lovell our resident horticulturists pointed out to me honeysuckle or another creeper adorning the walls and fencing surrounding the ground. The committee of ninety ninety six will remember me mentioning this and saying I would investigate................. I'll ask Kate! Anyway headway was made when the bearded twirling whirling spin meister nawazz the ali pir ripped one through the fuller figured Batsman and was plumb lbw.

With ed the lush bowling tightly we were well on top. Very few bad balls backed up by excellent ground fielding and catching makes for pressure cricket and wickets continued to fall. Pie man tommy p picking up two one a fine catch from lovely timing his jump on the boundary to stop a six. Luckily the ball was in lovells catching zone as he is limited by the fact that he remains on the NHS waiting list for a double hip replacement. I think they were about eighty for six but ended up making 136 due to a measured defensive innings from one of their U19 batsmen. Ollie came back to take the last wicket finishing with a three for while pir less (geddit) nawaaz ended with a five for including an ankle crunching caught and bowled.

Our rapid response unit started well with ed lush and stand in skipper john matthews looking fluent but no one in the top six managed the fifty that would have made it a smooth run in many perishing to cross batted shots mine being the worst a cross between a two handed top spin forehand and a shovel sky watching prod. Liam palmer the only one who can plead extenuating circumstances with a dubious looking stumping. We were teetering slightly at six down but the heavy artillery came to the rescue nawaaz smashing fourteen of the legspinner and our greatbach stuart owen heaving some vital runs. Another good win for the lean green winning machine all that is left to say is we are the green we are the green we are we are we are the green.

Crowd watch: not bad for early season.
